The Art of Happiness

"The greater part of our happiness and misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances" -Martha Washington

Maybe it's not the idea of having everything you want that makes you happy. Maybe it's the idea of accepting that things aren't always going to go the way you want it to.

It's funny to think that we get frustrated when we don't have enough hours in the day, when we miss a special television premiere to catch up on other things, when we don't get enough sleep, when we think that we have so many problems to deal with... that we can't be happy.

Life isn't going to be perfect, we as individuals aren't perfect and we sure recognize that society has some issues that needs to be improved. But maybe it's our mindset that we choose not accept to face the situations, that we choose to avoid and not deal with the obstacles that we run away from, that makes us unhappy.

Some things just don't work out. Not all days can be special, great, productive, or whatever you wish it could be. Some days are just tiring, busy, sad, rotten, or just a day you would rather not have.

The one mindset that keeps us from the ability to be happy is our inability to accept things in life. If you think about it, the majority of our time is spent on being upset or slightly irritated on how life isn't going the way we want it to go. But can we control everything in life? Can we actually say "hey, time just pause for a bit right now, until I get this done and then you can get on with your ticking." Not exactly.

What I had learned it's more of accepting the situation you are and then adapting it and choosing how you want to go about it. It's not about how unfair this is or what you rather have it be, but more on how you go about it and learning to enjoy the decisions you make even if they were right or wrong. It's learning how to accept life for what it is and enjoying the important things in life. It's taking life as journey to be made and discovered, not feared. Make the decisions that you want to make, not the ones that you are forced to and take life from there to be lived. Life is a journey meant to be discovered, enjoy it.
